Effectiveness of Words in Logo Design

There has been a proliferation of logos in the world and thanks to the world wide web these logos can be easily seen to inspire aspiring logo designers. Logotypes have been a norm for a few years now because of easy recognition for the company. This is also to simplify the lives of the consumer for brand recognition. There are very few logo marks I can remember at the top of my head; the Nike swoosh, “M” of McDonald’s, the Apple logomark, hmmm that’s it. It takes a lot of advertising money to create brand awareness with just your logomark and these multinational companies have a lot to spend.

Below are just a few samples of minimalist logo design that has impact. Most of them uses typography in the design while some still has a mark along with the type. But most of these logos will prefer to use their logomark along with their logotype. As I have said there are too many logos that people encounter on print and online that it becomes easy to forget.

The logos I have showcased above have impact due to its simplicity in design. Logos that are less cluttered and simple but still maintains the image it is hoping to convey is more effective. Take for example the logos I’ve mentioned earlier, those logos are less complicated than their competitions making it easier to remember.
