Design is AIR

Seoul Design Competition “Design Is AIR” goal is to design environmentally-friendly designs for sustainable city life. The winner was announced last March 2008 and the competition four fields of design: Earth (Environment),  Water (Communication in Flow), Wind (Experience in Media City Scape), Fire (Objects in Urban Culture).

The entrees are all superbly designed and interestingly there are two finalist and one of them is the grand winner that solves problems by firefighters.

The grand prize winner is “Life Pebbles” designed by Kim, Woo Sik and Jeon, You Ho both are from Konkuk University, Korea. Their winning design is inspired by a fairytale story “Hansel and Gretel” wherein the siblings left white pebbles in order for them to find their way back home. For firefighters the Life Pebbles will show them the safe exit from where they came from. This design is a solution to firefighters problem if being disoriented inside a structure on fire.

One of the silver prize awardee is also related to firefighting. This product can help the firefighter or the victims.  Air of Life can support breathing if there is danger of suffocation by toxic gas.  The design is a regulator that enables the user to breathe while blocking toxic gases.  Air of LIfe is designed by Seo, Jun Ho of Keimyung University in Korea.
